Petals & Pages: The March Issue

Time to catch up on what's been happening this past month, and see what's coming up.

Hey Reader.

Firstly, my apologies for the late arrival of this month's newsletter. I was under the weather last week and completely out of action! Thank you for your patience.

On a brighter note, spring is very much in the air here in my little corner of Germany. The dark mornings are finally giving way to light, and I have a feeling the worst of winter is behind us (though I'm whispering that, just in case I jinx it!)

Anyway, what else has happened since last we spoke, and what's coming up? Let me tell you... 💙

The first book in the Between Hill and Sea series is now in the hands of my editor and Critique Partner. It has also had a little name change and is now called Still Waters, Deep, which I think suits the story beautifully.

If you'd like to get to know the world a little better, Talise (the hydrologist at the heart of the story) recently sat down with Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books for an interview and an exclusive excerpt. Do follow the link HERE for a peek!

I am also opening the ARC list now, so if a contemporary fantasy, magical realism romance appeals to you, please do sign up!

They say the lake answers when the moon burns blue.

In the shadowed water of Llyn Du, hydrologist Talise Calder comes searching for scientific truth—and finds a man shaped from water, memory, and an ancient sorrow. When a red thread of fate binds them together, a quiet, aching love begins to surface.

But the lake does not remain still. As its waters rise and old vows stir beneath the surface, Talise is drawn into a bond that defies time and asks for sacrifice, yet never demands what love should not freely give.

To choose him is to step into a destiny woven by Ariandwyn, the ancient goddess who waits between hill and sea and remembers every promise spoken at the water’s edge.

Tender and haunting, Still Waters, Deep is a standalone novel in the Between Hill and Sea series, steeped in Welsh folklore—where love is gentle, magic is old, and the waters remember every name.

February was a busy month of three book birthday sales and… I may have slightly overestimated my superpowers. In future, where a month has multiple birthdays, there will be just one promotion - chosen by the members of Morgan's Musings.

This month is Hiraeth's turn for the spotlight. Five years ago today, HIRAETH came into the world, and I still cannot quite believe it. 🎂🐉💜

Five years of Ellis and Luke. Five years of Beddgelert, of red dragons patrolling the mountains of Wales, of Merlin welcoming a lost woman home. Five years of readers reaching out to tell me that this story gave them a word for a feeling they had carried their whole lives without knowing what to call it.

March carries a particular kind of energy — a month that feels like a long exhale after winter's grip finally begins to loosen. In old folk traditions, this was a time of emergence and anticipation, of watching the land shake off its stillness and begin, tentatively, to stir back into life. The days stretch a little longer, the light returns with purpose, and there is a sense that the world is gathering itself for something.

In Celtic and Welsh folklore, March sits at a powerful threshold, the turning point between the cold half of the year and the warm. It is a month of crossings and beginnings, marked by ancient festivals and the steady creep of green back into the landscape. Change here does not tiptoe; it arrives with birdsong and blossom and the smell of soil waking up.

Here are a few notable dates to keep in mind this month:

1st March — St David's Day, patron saint of Wales, a day to celebrate Welsh culture, language, and heritage with daffodils and pride. Ramadan also begins, a month of reflection, fasting, and community observed by Muslims around the world.

3rd March — World Wildlife Day, a chance to celebrate and raise awareness of the planet's wild creatures and plants.

5th March — World Book Day in the UK and Ireland, a wonderful excuse to celebrate reading, stories, and the books that have shaped us.

8th March — International Women's Day, a global moment to honour the achievements of women and reflect on the work still to be done.

15th March — Mother's Day in the UK and Ireland, so do remember to show appreciation for the maternal figures in your life!

17th March — St Patrick's Day, patron saint of Ireland, a festive celebration of Irish culture observed with great gusto across the world.

20th March — the Spring Equinox, when day and night are briefly equal and the official astronomical arrival of spring is marked. In many folk traditions, this is a moment of balance and renewal.

29th March — British and European Summer Time begins, and the clocks spring forward. The evenings suddenly feel full of possibility again.
